Launched! Georgia Advocacy Agenda for People Living with NCDs

The NCD Alliance Georgia has officially launched a national Advocacy Agenda for People Living with NCDs, with support from NCD Alliance (NCDA). The document aims to guide the creation of a more equitable, sustainable, and people-centered health system, where prevention and early detection of NCDs play a central role.

Its development was led by people living with NCDs from across Georgia and coordinated by the Georgian alliance as part of NCDA’s Our Views Our Voices initiative, possible through its partnership with the Leona M and Harry B Helmsley Charitable Trust.

On 22 January, a National Policy Dialogue brought together decision-makers from government institutions, leading public health experts, civil society leaders, and people living with NCDs and their representatives.

Discussions focused on the ongoing primary healthcare reform and the critical role of civil society in supporting it. Participants emphasized the importance of shifting from a hospital-centered model to a preventive, community-based, and people-centered approach that ensures early detection and long-term management of NCDs.

Key priorities of the Georgia Advocacy Agenda include:

  • Full integration of NCD prevention and management within primary healthcare;
  • Continuous training of medical personnel and effective referral mechanisms;
  • Sustainable financing for health promotion activities and effective fiscal policies;
  • Timely detection of diseases to prevent complications and improve quality of life.

The dialogue underscored that the success of health reforms depends on coordinated collaboration between government institutions, local authorities, and international partners, while meaningful engagement of civil society and people with lived experience of NCDs remains key to ensuring fairness and effectiveness.

The Georgia Advocacy Agenda is the eleventh national Advocacy Agenda. This is in addition to the global Advocacy Agenda and one regional Advocacy Agenda. The Advocacy Agendas are part of the Our Views, Our Voices initiative, to support and promote the meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs in decision making that affects their health.
